The first page of a blog or journal has always been so daunting to me. An entirely blank space that you want to step into on the right foot. So I figured I’d start off with who I am and how the heck I got here.
My name is Erica, and up until a couple months ago, I was an interior designer in Boston. But let’s start at the beginning…
I’m a Rhode Island native – woot woot Rhody Pride! and met my best friends for life (and as it would also turn out, my husband) in elementary school, junior high and high school. I went to Parsons School of Design for Interior Design where I would find a love for NYC that would never leave me, and coincidentally re-met my husband (who grew up down the street from me in Rhode Island). I would later follow him up to Boston where we would plant our roots.
Last year we welcomed the greatest addition that could ever be bestowed upon us, Jack. The smiliest, laughiest, most adorable little chunker boy you ever laid eyes on (I’m not biased at all, this is all fact). I went back to work after maternity leave to a job I had worked very hard to get, and loved so so much (and simultaneously started an etsy store). I tried to make it work, but it was just too much. The commute (which was about an hour each way if I didn’t hit rush hour) the picking up, the dropping off, rushing around. It wasn’t good for anyone. And my luck couldn’t have been better, because the Etsy store was doing great, and I loved doing it. So in an out of body experience, I walked up to my bosses with my eyes filled with tears and told them I’d be leaving. It was the hardest and best decision I ever made and our home couldn’t be happier.
The hours are now long and irregular and sporadic, late nights in my little home office, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I get to spend the day with my little guy, exploring the world and then shut myself up in my dark cave like a troll for hours, crafting, tinkering and typing away, sometimes with a glass of wine, you know, when the time is appropriate.
This blog is intended to be a reflecting of all the things that I think make life wonderful, beautiful, delicious and above all else, FUN!
